Is Primark’s PS Chocolate Makeup Range Really A Dupe For Two Faced’s Chocolate Collection?

Primark's PS...Chocolate makeup range shares a lot of similarities with the Chocolate Collection from Two Faced. But is it a dupe of it?

Too Faced’s Chocolate Collection has been raved about by beauty gurus all over the world and is a firm favourite amongst stars such as Kendall Jenner. Their delightful chocolate-scented bronzers and cult ‘Chcolate Bar’ eyeshadow palettes have revolutionised the beauty world and the brand as a whole is responsible for constantly dreaming up products that send the Internet into chaos.

But not all of us are able to fork out £49, most people’s weekly food shop, for a mere eye shadow palette, even if it does smell like a bar of Cadbury’s Dairy Milk. Which is why we were overjoyed when we found out that Primark has come out with their very own PS…Chocolate range, which is mysteriously similar to and seems to have taken (a lot of) inspiration from one of our favourite Too Faced collections, even down to the packaging, and they’re not being shy about it. We are here to give you a full review of the collection and our view on whether Primark’s PS…Chocolate makeup range is a true dupe for Too Faced’s famous and well-loved Chocolate Collection.

Products and Prices.

In terms of product type, Primark’s PS…Chocolate makeup range is mind-blowingly similar to Too Faced’s Chocolate Collection. On one hand, we have the Too Faced Collection which features the Cocoa Powder Foundation (£34), Chocolate Brow-nie eyebrow pencil (£23), Cocoa Contour palette (£42), Chocolate Soleil Bronzer (£25), Chocolate Gold Soleil Bronzer (£25), a collection of chocolate-themed Melted Lipstick shades (£21 each) and a huge range of eye shadow palettes (including the Chocolate Gold palette (£39), White Chocolate Chip palette (now on sale for £23.40), the Chocolate Bar Eye Shadow palette (£49), the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar palette (£49) , the Matte Chocolate Chip palette (£26) and the Chocolate Bon Bons palette).

So, it’s fair to say, the Too Faced Chocolate Collection is pretty extensive, with a load of products that would allow you to do a full-makeup look. However, as these products from a high-end and luxurious brand, they are pretty pricey, with the cheapest product in the range costing £21 and most expensive product, the 16-shade eye shadow palettes, retailing at £49 (not including the Chocolate Vault which costs a hefty £180, yikes).

On the other hand we have Primark’s PS…Chocolate range which people seem to be going a little insane over. The collection includes the PS…Chocolate Contour And Eyeshadow Palette which (£6) contains 8 neutral eyeshadows and 2 blush/highlight shades, the PS…Chocolate Eyeshadow Palette (£3), the PS…Chocolate Cheek Palette (£4) and the PS…Chocolate Molten Gloss Lip Kits (£3), so the collection is noticeably smaller. Aside from the product range, the other major difference between the two collections is the price. Primark’s products all range between £2 and £6, so they are definitely more affordable that their Too Faced rivals. But we can’t judge a product merely by its price and appearance. Let’s have a look at the quality.

Quality Over Quantity?

Too Faced are known for being a luxurious brand that produces good-quality, pigmented and long-lasting products, which explains the high price mark. But what about Primark’s PS…Chocolate makeup range? While the products are extremely affordable, we have to say that having tried and tested them, they are harder to use and do come off a little patchy. Let’s take the eye shadow palettes, for example, which are definitely not as smooth and buttery as their Too Faced alternatives and are quite chalky.

It is also worth noting that most of the range’s palettes in the shop contained smashed or crumbling product, which isn’t a good sign in when it comes to quality. But you do get a lot of product for the price and Primark’s products are more pigmented than initially expected. However, one thing I will say is that the shade range is a little disappointing. Take the Chocolate Eyeshadow Palette, for example, which features a cool-toned matte brown, a warm matte brown and a bright, shimmery silver. It just seems a bit…meh. Theres not much you can do with these 3 shades, but at only £3, you can’t really complain.

Let’s Talk Packaging.

Another huge similarity between the two ranges is the packaging design. Too Faced are renowned for their use of the ‘chocolate-box’ eyeshadow container, which Primark seem to have taken a lot of inspiration from for their collection. However, whereas the Too Faced eyeshadow palettes come in a sturdy tin box with a good-quality mirror, Primark’s eyeshadow palettes come in a more flimsy cardboard box and lack a mirror but, again, considering the price, I’m not mad at it. The packaging of Primark’s Molten Gloss Chocolate Lip Kit is also alarmingly similar to Too Faced’s Melted Chocolate Liquid Lipsticks with the exact same product shape, however the Too Faced version does lack the added lip liner in Primark’s Lip Kit. So, the only different in packaging seems to be a very slight design difference and the quality of the packaging but overall, if you were a stranger to the two ranges, it would be hard to tell them apart.

What About The Scent?

Now, lets talk about the scent. The Too Faced Chocolate Collection is known for its dreamy chocolate scent on all of the products that you can sniff and they’ll instantly make you crave a bar of Dairy Milk. Primark has tried to copy this by giving their PS…Chocolate Collection a scent, which is definitely there, but it is more of a faint, sweet smell and is definitely less luxurious.

So, is Primark’s PS…Chocolate range a dupe for Too Faced’s Chocolate Collection? I think if you don’t want to spend the money on high-street makeup and want something a bit different, Primark’s collection could be a great choice for you. But bear in mind that will this collection doesn’t have the best quality products, but then again, you are getting a lot of product for your money.
